A 40-foot boat was taking on water at Berth 204 at a Wilmington marina and marine units from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the emergency, a fire department spokeswoman said.

The call about the sinking boat came in at 7:34 p.m., said fire department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Marine units put a siphon ejector in place which began removing water from the vessel, Stewart said. This action increased the boat’s buoyancy.

Firefighters also located one leak and were working to see if there were more leaks, Stewart continued. A dive team was en route to the scene and will conduct an external evaluation of the boat, she added.

The owner of the vessel is not at the scene, Stewart said.
