“Sonic The Hedgehog” nipped “The Call of the Wild” to claim the top spot at the box office this weekend, taking in $26.3 million in its second week of release, according to industry estimates out Sunday.
The family film, based on the popular video game and starring Jim Carrey as the villain, narrowly beat out the debut of the CGI-heavy Harrison Ford vehicle based on the Jack London novel, which took in $24.8 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported.
“Birds of Prey” was in a distant third place with $7 million, followed by “Brahms: The Boy II,” which opened with $5.9 million, and “Bad Boys for Life” with $5.8 million.
Rounding out the 10 top-grossing films of the weekend, as estimated be Comscore, are “1917” ($4.4 million), “Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island” ($4.1 million), “Parasite” ($3.1 million), “Jumanji: The Next Level” ($3 million) and “The Photograph” ($2.8 million).
