Authorities Thursday identified a woman who died after being rescued by firefighters from a burning home in Tujunga.
Diane Regis, 71, died at the scene of the fire that was reported about 1:40 a.m. Tuesday in the 10700 block of Las Lunitas Avenue, according to the coroner’s office and the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters encountered flames inside a one-story home and fire that had spread to the attic, according to the LAFD.
Regis was removed from the residence in grave condition, but “despite the efforts of LAFD paramedics … proved beyond medical help,” said Brian Humphrey of the LAFD. No other injuries were reported.
“Due to severe fire damage, the presence of smoke alarms and their functional status at the time of the fire could not be immediately determined,” Humphrey said.
“Other than excessive personal storage, no other factors that may have limited the woman’s egress were immediately noted,” Humphrey said. “The 64-year-old home was not equipped with optional residential fire sprinklers.”
A total of 39 firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in 37 minutes. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
