A fire behind a two-story apartment building in Boyle Heights Monday evening spread into one unit of the complex, but firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in 12 minutes.
Crews responded to the 300 block of State Street, near Third Street, at 10:15 p.m., according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A total of 26 firefighters kept flames from spreading beyond the first unit involved, Prange said.
No one was found inside the apartment and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
