Up to 25 gallons of apparent crude oil was found leaking from a subterranean pipeline in Harbor City Monday afternoon.
The spill was reported about 12:55 p.m. in the 1400 block of West 240th Street, near Western Avenue, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A hazardous material team was sent to the scene, but “no specific or off-site hazard” was identified, Humphrey said.
No injuries were reported, and no evacuations were given, according to Humphrey.
Firefighters contained the spill on-site with shovelful of dirt, and a team with the pipeline company was working to stem the flow, Humphrey said. Clean-up will be handled by a private company.
