Eric C. Taylor has been elected as the next presiding judge for the Los Angeles County’s Superior Court system, court officials announced Thursday.

Taylor has served as assistant presiding judge since January 2019, and will take over the top spot in January.

He was appointed to the bench in 1998, has served as a Superior Court site judge for the Inglewood courthouse, along with assistant district supervising judge and supervising judge, both for the Southwest district.

He was the first judge to be elected a second time as president of the California Judges Association and helped expand and solidify the organization’s membership and give judges a strong voice throughout California, officials said. He also served on the Los Angeles Superior Court’s executive committee.

Before being appointed as a judge, he worked as a deputy county counsel for Los Angeles County in civil litigation, sheriff’s civil defense and public works divisions and as a litigation associate at Sonnenschein, Nath and Rosenthal, and the former law offices of Pettit and Martin.
