A 27-year-old woman was killed when the sedan she was riding in as a passenger rear-ended a tractor/trailer on the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Claremont, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.
The sedan’s driver, a 29-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. The duo were residents of Upland, the CHP reported.
The collision was reported near Indian Hill Boulevard at 1:10 a.m. Saturday.
The black 2009 Mercedes-Benz C-300 rear-ended a 2020 Freightliner tractor/trailer while going 70 mph, while the big rig was going approximately 45 mph, officials said.
Officers located the two vehicles blocking the middle lanes, with the sedan facing sideways in the lanes of traffic.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and it was not immediately known if the driver of the big rig was injured. It was also unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash.
The CHP’s Baldwin Park office urged anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 626-338-1164.
