A jackknifed big rig leaked diesel fuel from a 100-gallon tractor tank during a multi-vehicle traffic crash Saturday in the truck lanes of the Golden State (5) freeway in Granada Hills, shutting down the transition nearly four hours.
“LAFD personnel have stopped the leak and are working to contain the spill,” said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 12:05 p.m. to the northbound freeway, north of the Foothill (210) Freeway, Humphrey said.
There were no reports of fire, he said.
A SigAlert was issued at noon shutting down the truck lane from the northbound Golden State Freeway to the westbound Foothill Freeway so that the big rig could be removed and the diesel fuel cleaned up, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The truck route was reopened at 3:48 p.m.
