Two people suffered minor injuries when the horse-drawn carriage they were riding in somehow tipped over, landing on its side during a funeral procession Saturday in Pasadena.

“Unfortunately, the coffin fell off the carriage,” Pasadena spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said, adding that no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 11:44 a.m. to Fair Oaks Avenue and Washington Boulevard, where the horse was temporarily dragged once the carriage fell to its side, Derderian said.

“The horse was cut free and once it was calmed down, appeared to be fine,” she said. “We recommended that there be a follow-up with a vet.”

Paramedics took the two people with minor injuries to an area hospital, she said.
