Two people were taken to a hospital for smoke exposure, and a child was treated for minor injuries from a fall, following a fire that broke out Thursday at an apartment building in Panorama City.

Crews were called about 1 p.m. to 8740 N. Willis Ave., where the blaze was reported in a second-floor unit of the three-story building, said Brian Humphrey with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

It took 34 firefighters about 20 minutes to douse the flames that were contained to the unit of origin, Humphrey said.

A 3-year-old girl who fell while evacuating with her family was treated at the scene and released to her parents, he said.

Two other people, who were residents of the burned-out apartment, contacted paramedics after the fire was extinguished, “expressing concerns related to their smoke exposure,” Humphrey said. They were taken to a hospital in fair condition “for clinical evaluation,” he said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
