A stumbling, disoriented woman was killed by a vehicle as she walked down an on-ramp to the Santa Monica (10) Freeway late at night in Santa Monica, authorities said Monday.

The incident was reported at 10:33 p.m. Sunday on the Cloverfield Boulevard on-ramp to the eastbound Santa Monica Freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Dion Conley.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Conley said.

The Santa Monica Police Department told the CHP the victim was seen stumbling and appeared disoriented on the 2100 block of Delaware Avenue, and that she wandered away and walked down the on-ramp before she was hit by the vehicle.

The female’s age was not available, and her name was not released pending notification of relatives. No other details were yet available about why she appeared to be disoriented. There was no report that the driver of the vehicle that hit the woman was detained.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 10:55 p.m. shutting down the on-ramp. It was reopened at about 2 a.m.
