Archbishop José H. Gomez will celebrate a special Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City on Saturday, with more than 200 pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles set to attend.
Prayer intentions for the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe — which were collected at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day at all 11 locations of the Catholic Cemeteries and Mortuaries, and online — will be presented to Our Lady at the Mass.
The Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Pacific Time and be streamed at lacatholics.org/pilgrimage/.
This is the fourth Archdiocesan pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which houses the original cloak of St. Juan Diego — a relic Catholics believe holds the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe that appeared in 1531.
The Basilica at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe is the most visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world.
Our Lady of Guadalupe is a Catholic title of Mary, the mother of Jesus, associated with a series of five Marian apparitions to St. Juan Diego, a Mexican peasant, and his uncle, Juan Bernardino, that are believed to have occurred in December 1531.
