The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Friday for the third consecutive day after increasing eighth-tenths of a cent, decreasing six-tenths of a cent to $4.788.

The average price has dropped 1.3 cents over the past three days, including a half-cent Thursday, and is a half-cent less than one week ago, 29.1 cents lower than one month ago and 10 cents below what is one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has dropped $1.706 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The Orange County average price dropped for the third consecutive day following a six-day streak of increases totaling 2.6 cents, decreasing 1 cent to $4.688. The average price has dropped 1.9 cents over the past three days, including seven-tenths of a cent Thursday.

The Orange County average price is two-tenths of a cent more than one week ago but 29.8 cents less than one month ago and 12.6 cents lower than one year ago. It has dropped $1.771 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.

“Local gas supplies appear to be tightening again after more than two months of price drops,” said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.

“The Auto Club is projecting that more than five million Southern Californians will start heading out of town beginning this Saturday for Independence Day holiday getaways, so that fuel demand is likely helping to push up pump prices.”

The national average price was unchanged, remaining at $3.503, after four consecutive increases totaling 5.6 cents, including nine-tenths of a cent Thursday. It is 4.7 cents more than one week ago but 8.3 cents less than one month ago and 5.3 cents lower than one year ago.

The national average price has dropped $1.513 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
