The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose one-tenth of a cent Wednesday to $4.584, the sixth consecutive increase after dropping to its lowest amount since Jan. 26.
The average price has increased 4.1 cents over the past six days, including six-tenths of a cent Tuesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 3.9 cents more than one week ago, but 2.6 cents less than one month ago and $1.409 lower than one year ago.
The average price has dropped $1.91 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.
“It appears that unplanned maintenance at a Southern California refinery has pushed up prices in recent days,” Marie Montgomery, an Automobile Club of Southern California spokesperson, told City News Service. “The unplanned maintenance happened in both the Carson and Wilmington sections of Marathon Petroleum’s refinery.
“However, Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices moved back downward a bit today, so this trend might not continue.”
A six-day streak of increases to the Orange County average price totaling 5.3 cents ended with a decrease of a half-cent to $4.525. It is 4.8 cents more than one week ago, but 1 cent less than one month ago and $1.307 lower than one year ago.
The Orange County average price has dropped $1.934 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The national average price rose 2.4 cents to $3.205, the third consecutive increase following a nine-day streak of decreases totaling 5 cents. It is nine-tenths of a cent more than one week ago, but 6.5 cents less than one month ago and 49.9 cents lower than one year ago.
The national average price has dropped $1.811 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
