The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County fell Saturday to its lowest amount since Dec. 29, 2022, dropping three-tenths of a cent to $4.47.
The average price has decreased 13 of the past 14 days, dropping 5.5 cents, including eight-tenths of a cent Friday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It dropped eight consecutive days, rose a half-cent Monday and resumed decreasing Tuesday.
The average price is 2.5 cents less than one week ago, 13.3 cents lower than one month ago and 67.3 cents below what it was one year ago. It has dropped $2.024 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The Orange County average price fell to its lowest amount since Dec. 28, 2022, dropping two-tenths of a cent to $4.376, its fifth consecutive decrease after a four-day streak of increases totaling 1 cent. It has dropped 3.8 cents over the past five days, including 1 cent on Friday.
The Orange County average price is 2.8 cents less than one week ago, 15.6 cents lower than one month ago and 62.1 cents below what it was one year ago. It has dropped $2.083 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The national average price dropped six-tenths of a cent to $3.078 after being unchanged the previous two days. It is 1.2 cents less than one week ago, 12.6 cents lower than one month ago and 26.4 cents below what it was one year ago.
The national average price has dropped $1.938 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
The possible formation of a new hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico could delay or temporarily reverse the decline in pump prices, according to Andrew Gross, an AAA national public relations manager.
“Hurricane Rafael fizzled out, but now we are facing the possible formation of Hurricane Sara,” Gross said. “Some of the early tracking models have her heading toward Florida by the middle of next week, so stay tuned.”
