A 42-year-old motorist killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 210 in Irwindale was identified Monday.
The crash occurred at about 4:40 p.m. Friday on the westbound 210 east of Irwindale Avenue, according to Capt. Vic Walton of the California Highway Patrol.
Rashad Kellen James Martin, 18, of Fontana, was driving a gray Hyundai Elantra westbound when the car veered right and struck a metal electrical box on the shoulder, CHP officials said. The Hyundai continued in a northwesterly direction and hit a gray Chevrolet Impala that had just entered the freeway from the Irwindale Avenue on-ramp, Walton said.
“The Impala was struck on the left side, causing it to travel in a westerly direction and come to rest on its wheels in a dirt embankment area,” according to a CHP statement. “The Hyundai Elantra also spun out of control and came to rest on its wheels in the same area.”
The driver of the Impala, identified Monday by the county Medical Examiner’s Office as 42-year-old Daniel Fisch of Monrovia, was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was unclear whether Martin sustained any injuries in the crash.
Alcohol and drugs were not considered contributing factors in the crash, according to officials.
Anyone with information regarding the crash was urged to call the CHP’s Baldwin Park-area office at 626-517-8500.
