Power was restored to about 2,400 Southern California Edison customers in the eastern Long Beach area but more than 2,900 were still without power due to an equipment problem that required repair.
The outage was first reported about 9:10 a.m. Saturday in an area that included Bellflower Boulevard and Wardlow Road.
At 2:27 p.m., the utility reported that repairs were underway and most customers would have service restored by 5:30 p.m.
That time came and went with 2,931 customers in the area at 5:50 p.m. still without power for air conditioning and appliances, SCE spokeswoman Gabriella Ornelas told City News Service.
The problem was an “equipment issue,” Ornelas said. Crews were working on repairs but a restoration time was no longer available.
Temperatures in Long Beach reached the mid-80s Saturday, about 10 degrees cooler than the northern parts of Los Angeles County.
