A large-scale food distribution is planned Wednesday in El Monte to assist up to 2,000 families as residents continue to face high food costs and reduced federal assistance.
The drive-through distribution is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at 4024 Durfee Ave., with food available while supplies last.
Los Angeles County Board Chair and First District Supervisor Hilda Solis will host the event in partnership with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
No eligibility requirements are needed to receive assistance, and organizers said the event will be limited to drive-through service, with walk-ups not permitted.
County officials said the effort comes as changes to federal nutrition programs, including SNAP — known in California as CalFresh — continue to affect local families.
“As food costs remain elevated and federal support shifts, local distributions like this one are intended to help address food access gaps and provide support to households facing ongoing economic pressure,” Solis’ office said in a statement.
CalFresh provides monthly food assistance to low-income individuals and families, but benefit levels have fluctuated in recent years following the expiration of pandemic-era emergency allotments and ongoing federal policy changes.
