Weekend closures of lanes and ramps along the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Whittier are set to resume Friday evening for paving work.
The closures will take place from Slauson Avenue to Washington Boulevard from Friday night and early Monday morning, according to Caltrans.
All northbound lanes will reopen to the public by 5 a.m. Monday.
The lane closures are as follows:
— Northbound 605 will be reduced to one lane from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday, to two lanes from 4 a.m. Saturday to 11 p.m. Sunday and to one lane from 11 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday. All northbound lanes will reopen to the public by 5 a.m. Monday.
The ramp closures are as follows:
— the on-ramp from Telegraph Road to northbound will be closed;
— the off-ramp from northbound 605 to Slauson Avenue will be closed; and
— the northbound 605 Washington Boulevard on- and off-ramps will be closed.
“Ramp traffic will be detoured via local arterial routes during the hours of the ramp closures, according to an agency statement regarding the closures. “Caltrans urges motorists to avoid the area during construction and use alternate freeway routes where possible, including northbound Interstate 110, Interstate 710 and state Route 57.”
On Friday night, the demolition of old freeway lane concrete will occur on northbound 605 from south of Slauson Avenue to north of Washington Boulevard.
The work is part of the $260 million Super 605 freeway corridor projects to rehabilitate the freeway from Long Beach to the San Gabriel Valley.
There will be more 55-hour extended weekend lane reductions scheduled through 2026.
