Malibu city officials Thursday announced they are delaying its upcoming speed camera program to November.
While the program was initially scheduled for late September, officials said the additional time will allow for necessary installation adjustments and will ensure the program will be ready to operate as intended, according to a news statement.
“While the city prepares for the formal launch of the speed camera program, several cameras are currently operational as part of a testing and data-gathering phase,” according to the news statement. “The cameras are not currently issuing warnings or citations, accessing driver information from the DMV or taking enforcement action.”
Motorists may see a camera flash when a speeding violation is detected during the testing period. However, the flash does not result in a warning or citation.
The cameras will be collecting preliminary information on speeding activity to help the city assess existing conditions and inform its traffic-safety efforts.
