A fire believed to have been intentionally at a Santa Ana apartment left two good Samaritans injured and resulted in about $100,000 in damage, authorities said Tuesday.
Firefighters sent to the 1100 block of West Second Street at 3:20 p.m. Monday extinguished the flames on the first floor of the two-story 16-unit building in about 15 minutes, said Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority.
A 37-year-old man living in the apartment was pulled to safety by two neighbors, Concialdi. The two men — one in his 30s and the other in his 60s — suffered “moderate” smoke inhalation and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
The man who was pulled to safety was taken to a hospital and placed on a psychiatric hold, Concialdi said. He declined to elaborate. There were no arrests, and the circumstances of the fire remain under investigation.
