A 2-year-old girl fell ill with a fever Friday on a flight from Vancouver to John Wayne Airport, where paramedics met the plane and transported the tot to CHOC Children’s Hospital in Orange, a fire captain said.
Orange County Fire Authority personnel were dispatched to the airport about 2:30 p.m. on a report that a toddler was feverish on West Jet Flight 1754, which was carrying 125 passengers, OCFA Capt. Larry Kurtz said.
Dispatchers initially said it could be a case of meningitis, “but we’re pulling back from that,” Kurtz said about 3:30 p.m.
Passengers didn’t need to be quarantined and were all cleared to go to their destinations, Kurtz said.
The flight arrived in Santa Ana at 2:15 p.m., John Wayne Airport spokeswoman Jenny Wedge said.
“All passengers on the flight were made aware that there was a medical situation and, therefore, several stood by awaiting clearance from (Orange County Healthcare Agency officials),” Wedge said.
All of the passengers were cleared to leave about 2:55 p.m., Wedge said.
The incident did not affect any other flights or airport operations, Wedge said.
