A father shot and killed his wife outside a Mission Viejo apartment building, then killed himself in front of their two young children Halloween night, a sheriff’s lieutenant said Saturday.
Scott Gimbel, 50, and Linda Gimbel, 44, were found dead at the scene, according to the Coroner’s Office.
Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock said the shooting took place during a child custody exchange, where the couple’s 13-year-old and 7-year-old children were present in a vehicle. The sheriff’s lieutenant could not confirm the genders of the children.
The shootings were reported at 8:35 p.m. Friday at 26871 Alameda. Deputies found the bodies as well as a handgun around a vehicle at the location, Hallock said.
Detectives believe the man shot the woman, then turned the gun on himself, the lieutenant said.
