An investigation was underway Monday to determine if a driver whose car struck a fellow Leisure World resident, leaving her hospitalized with serious injuries, was at fault, Seal Beach police reported.

The 61-year-old woman was walking through a carport near Pelham Road and St. Andrew Drive about 6 p.m. Sunday when she was struck by the car, whose driver was attempting to park the vehicle, according to Seal Beach police Sgt. Phil Gonshak.

The woman, whose name was withheld, sustained serious injuries to her head and chest area, Gonshak said. She was taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital’s intensive care unit, Gonshak said.

The driver — a 68-year-old Leisure World resident whose name was also withheld — was questioned, but there were no indications that drugs or alcohol played a role, Gonshak said.

Anyone with information was asked to call investigator Brad Davis at (562) 799-4100, ext. 1612.
