A two-story condominium complex at Newport Beach sustained extensive damage in an early Saturday morning fire.

The fire was reported near the intersection of Clubhouse Avenue and Short Street just after midnight, a fire dispatcher said.

A videographer at the scene said the roof of the condominium collapsed in the fire, and eight occupants were evacuated.

The dispatcher said the second alarm blaze was knocked down by 45 firefighters within 47 minutes.

It was not known if there were any injuries, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
