A man was fatally injured and a 14-year-old boy suffered moderate injuries when their vehicle collided with a pickup truck in Costa Mesa, authorities said Thursday.
The accident occurred in the 2900 block of Fairview Road around 7 p.m. Wednesday, the Orange County Coroner reported.
The victim, a 32-year-old man, had exited a supermarket parking lot and was driving on Fairview when his vehicle was broadsided by a pickup headed north, said Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Joyce Lapointe. The driver died at a hospital and the boy was hospitalized with moderate injuries, she said.
The 18-year-old driver of the pickup remained at the scene to be questioned by law enforcement, Lapointe said, adding that the cause of the collision is under investigation.
