A 27-year-old gang member was convicted Monday of murder in the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old boy in Santa Ana.
Armando Carachure and a 12-year-old boy in his gang approached 14-year-old Fidel Armando Guajardo in Jerome Park in Santa Ana about 7:20 p.m. on June 21, 2013, and asked what gang he was affiliated with, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
The two chased Guajardo down and Carachure stabbed the victim repeatedly in the back, prosecutors said.
The victim, who was on his bicycle at the time, did not provoke his attackers, prosecutors said.
Carachure was convicted of murder with special circumstances of carrying out the killing for a gang and street terrorism, according to court records. Jurors also found true sentencing enhancements for gang activity.
Carachure is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 20.
