A baby girl who was not breathing was rushed to a hospital in Irvine where she was pronounced dead.

The paramedic fire engine and its four-member crew were returning from a call at Kaiser Irvine Hospital around 8 p.m. Thursday, when it received a call from a nearby address of a baby not breathing, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.

As the crew arrived at the residence in the 800 block of Quail Canyon, the girl’s father ran out, carrying her, Concialdi said.

With the arrival time of the ambulance given as five minutes, Concialdi said the firefighters decided to take the girl directly to the hospital, which was two minutes away.

The baby was placed in the back of the fire engine and firefighters attempted lifesaving procedures en route to the hospital, Concialdi said.

The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital, Concialdi said.

Concialdi said there were no suspicious circumstances in the baby’s death.
