A newborn infant was surrendered by her mother at a fire station in Santa Ana.
The mother brought the baby girl to Orange County Fire Authority Station 75 in the 100 block of West Walnut Street around 6:50 p.m., Friday, OC Fire Authority Public Information Officer Capt. Steve Concialdi said.
The infant was estimated to be 12-18 hours old when she was brought to the station, Concialdi said.
Concialdi said both mother and child were in excellent health.
The child was taken to Western Medical Center for assessment, and will then be under the care of the Orange County Social Services Agency, Concialdi said.
Under the California Safely Surrendered Baby Law, the mother’s name and age will remain confidential, Concialdi said.
The baby girl was the second to be given up in Orange County since the law went into effect in 2001, Concialdi said.
