A man suspected of making criminal threats, leading officers on a chase through several Orange County communities and holding police at bay in Orange was undergoing treatment Monday for bites inflicted by a police dog, authorities said.
Upon his release from the hospital, 46-year-old Daniel Hall Taylor will be booked on suspicion of criminal threats and assault on a police K-9, said said Tustin police Sgt. Jon Cartwright.
Police originally were informed of the threats just after 11 a.m. Sunday, according to the Tustin Police Department watch commander.
The threats were made against a Tustin woman, and officers began chasing the man’s vehicle about 5:30 p.m. after going to his home in Irvine, according to news reports.
About 6 p.m. the suspect stopped outside the Lamoreaux Justice Center in the 300 block of The City Drive South in Orange. Officers with guns drawn took up positions behind a police cruiser and later a large SWAT vehicle was positioned behind the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspect then moved the vehicle he was driving and police vehicles again repositioned themselves to block any escape.
The standoff ended about 9:15 p.m. when the man, acting combatively, got out of the SUV and was met with non-lethal rounds and a police dog, according to reports from the scene. He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital.
It was believed the man was armed with a handgun, but it was not immediately clear if one was recovered.
