A woman was stabbed multiple times at a Santa Ana home Wednesday, and her husband was arrested a short time later on suspicion of attempted murder.
Santa Ana police responded at about 3 a.m. to a home in the 800 block of West 15th Street and found the injured woman, who was taken to Western Medical Center in critical but stable condition. Police said she had been stabbed multiple times in the upper body.
The woman’s husband, 36-year-old R.C. Dwain Birch, fled the scene on a motorcycle before police arrived, according to Santa Ana police. His motorcycle was later found abandoned in the city of Orange. Officers responded to the area, and Birch was found sitting next to a fence in the 300 block of East Taft Avenue, still in possession of the knife used in the attack, police said.
Birch was “uncooperative,” but was taken into custody with the help of a police dog, police said. Birch was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries suffered during the arrest, and is expected to be booked into jail in Santa Ana.
