Two of three men suspected in an Irvine condominium burglary remain at large, police reported Monday.
Witnesses called police to report they saw three men going back and forth between a condo and a vehicle idling in the fire lane on Tall Oak, then quickly drive off, according to Irvine Police Lt. Bill Whalen.
The front door of the residence had been pried open and it was ransacked, Whalen said. The burglars stole a “large amount” of U.S. and Japanese cash as well as a designer handbag, he said.
Police were given a license number for the car, which had been rented from an agency in Pomona, leading to the arrest of David McNeal, 41, of Pomona, Whalen said.
A subsequent search of McNeal’s home led police to more foreign currency, Rolex watches, nine rifles and two handguns, which were reported stolen in Los Angeles County burglaries, Whalen said.
McNeal posted bail Saturday and was released from the Orange County Jail, according to jail records.
One of the suspects being sought was described as a heavyset black man about 55 to 60 years old and 5-foot-10. He was wearing dark clothes and needed a cane to get around, Whalen said.
The other suspect was described as a black man about 30 to 35 years old, who was wearing a dark hat and dark, saggy jeans, Whalen said.
Anyone with information about their identities or whereabouts was asked to call detectives at (949) 724-7276.
