Maybe it didn’t really have anything to do with California’s drought, but authorities Tuesday were still trying to figure out why someone stole a Sparkletts water truck.
One police officer said it is not uncommon for commercial trucks to be stolen, “but this was a little out there.”
The water-bottle laden truck was stolen from the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant in Orange, and recovered a short time later in nearby Cypress. A suspect was quickly arrested.
The truck was taken from the lot at 105 E. Katella Ave. about 4:30 p.m. Monday, said Lt. Dennis Gomez of the Orange Police Department.
The driver was not in the truck when it was taken.
The truck was recovered from a grocery store parking lot at 10051 Valley View in Cypress and a suspect was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit, said Sgt. Greg Faessel of the Cypress Police Department.
The suspect was turned over to Orange police where he is in custody. It was not clear if any of the water aboard the truck was missing when the suspect was arrested.
The truck was returned to its owners.
