A 6-year-old boy died and his father suffered life- threatening injuries Monday when their car was “t-boned” by another vehicle, according to Santa Ana police, who said both drivers were suspected of being under the influence.
The collision happened about 12:40 p.m. at Bristol Street and St. Andrew Place, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Though the man behind the wheel of the vehicle that collided with the car carrying the boy and his father was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, it does not appear he was at fault, Bertagna said.
The boy’s father, who is also suspected of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failed to yield the right-of-way at the intersection to the other alleged drunken driver, Bertagna said.
The boy was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he “died on the operating table,” Bertagna said. His father was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center, where he was being treated in the intensive care unit, Bertagna said.
The names of the boy and both drivers were not immediately released.
