A bus carrying a group of middle school-age students on a church outing was involved in a slow-speed accident Monday in Lake Forest, but only minor injuries were reported, authorities said.

The accident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. in the parking lot of Saddleback Church, at 1 Saddleback Parkway, as the bus was leaving for the outing, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.

Some minor injuries were reported, but everyone was treated at the scene and all were planning to still go on the five-day church camp outing, he said.

Of the 45 people aboard, 30 were seventh-graders, according to Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock, who said another bus took the group to a church camp as planned.

The bus was going less than 10 mph when it struck a pole, Hallock said.
