Fountain Valley police are teaming up with federal agents to investigate two burglaries of gun stores within a four-day period, a sergeant said Thursday.

Orange County Firearms, at 17150 Newhope St., was burglarized at 9:43 a.m. last Saturday, according to Fountain Valley police Sgt. Tony Luce. When store employees arrived to open up the shop, they saw a broken window and discovered weapons had been taken, Luce said.

On Wednesday, burglars broke into RifleGear, 18065 Mt. Shay St., just before 5 a.m., Luce said. Again, the thieves got into the store by breaking a window, he said.

Investigators do not know if the burglaries are connected, Luce said. The stores are about a mile apart, he said.

Police have contacted the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for help with the investigation, Luce said.

There have not been any similar recent gun store break-ins locally, he said.

Police declined to say how many guns — or what type of weapons — were taken.
