A man apparently hanged himself from the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach Friday, police said.
Police were called at 6:33 a.m. to respond to a report of a body hanging from the pier, according to Newport Beach Police Sgt. Peter Carpentieri.
It appears to be a case of suicide, Carpentieri said.
The pier had to be closed for a few hours Friday morning, but it was reopened by 10 a.m., the sergeant said.
