A 35-year-old man in Santa Ana was struck and killed Sunday by a speeding hit-and-run motorist.

The crash occurred in front of 1227 W. 1st St. The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:43 a.m., according to the coroner’s office.

His name will be released pending notification of next of kin.

The pedestrian was crossing the street from north to south when he was struck by a midnight blue, four-door Honda Accord, whoich had been speeding west on First Street, said Cpl. Matt Wharton of the Santa Ana Police Department.

The car sustained substantial damage and was missing its driver’s side mirror, Wharton said.

Santa Ana police investigators asked anyone who saw the crash, or spots the Honda, to call them at (714) 245-8209.
