A 37-year-old part-time clown at children’s parties says he’s not guilty of charges of sexually assaulting two girls, 9 and 5 years old, in Huntington Beach.

Gualberto Torresvargas could face 175 years to life in prison if convicted of three counts of sexual intercourse or sodomy with a child 10 or younger, five counts of oral copulation or sexual penetration of a child 10 or younger, and two counts of lewd acts on a child younger than 14.

He also faces a sentence-enhancing allegation of multiple victims.

Torresvargas, who entered the not guilty plea Friday, did not meet the two alleged victims through his clown gig, according to Deputy District Attorney Lexie Elliott, who said he is accused of engaging in “multiple acts of sexual abuse” with the 9-year-old.

But investigators suspect there could be more victims because Torresvargas encountered children at his clown engagements.

Huntington Beach police Officer Jennifer Marlatt said Torresvargas lived near the children, but declined to release further details.

Anyone who might have information regarding the case was asked to call Supervising District Attorney Investigator Mark Gutierrez at (714) 347-8794.
