It’s not a very merry holiday time Sunday for 10 drivers who were arrested at a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint in Costa Mesa.
The checkpoint operated on northbound Harbor Boulevard around Flower Street, said Costa Mesa Police Lt. Greg Scott.
Nearly 3,250 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and officers took a closer look inside nearly 300 vehicles, Scott said. Officers administered 18 DUI investigations and arrested four people suspected of DUI.
In addition, six drivers were arrested and cited for operating a vehicle while unlicensed or with a suspended license, he said. The checkpoint ran from late Friday night to early Saturday morning, but authorities warned other checkpoints across the Southland may be in operation during the holiday period.
The checkpoints crack down on drinking and driving, lowering DUI deaths and injuries by providing a deterrent, raising awareness and encouraging people to use designated drivers, Scott said.
