Two bicyclists were shot and killed in separate gang-related shootings in Santa Ana, police said.
The first shooting occurred in the 4000 block of West Hazard Avenue just before 10 p.m., Santa Ana Police Department Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. The second one happened a few minutes later in the 400 block of South Birch Street.
Both victims were men who were dead at the scene when police arrived, Bertagna said. Their names were withheld pending notification of their next of kin.
“Both shootings appear gang-related,” Bertagna said. “It’s so early in the investigations that we don’t yet know if there are any connections.”
The shootings were on opposite ends of Santa Ana, he said.
“The first shooting was on the Westside and the second one was near downtown,” Bertagna said.
In the first shooting, witnesses told police they saw a car pass by and then shots were fired, Bertagna said. In the second case, witnesses told responding officers that the shooter walked up and fired at the bicyclist.
No suspect descriptions in either case were available, Bertagna said.
