Buena Park Police and the Orange County coroner’s office Saturday were investigating the death of a man in the swimming pool at the 24 Hour Fitness in the Buena Park Mall, authorities said.
The Orange County Fire Authority was called to 24 Hour Fitness in the mall at Stanton and La Palma avenues at 9:53 p.m. Friday, said Capt. Tony Bommarito.

A man identified by the coroner’s office as 20-year-old Daniel Kye of Fullerton had been pulled from the pool by bystanders who started CPR, Bommarito said. Buena Park Police officers were continuing CPR when firefighters arrived, but “they were unable to save him,” and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The coroner’s office described the death as “an apparent swimming pool drowning,” but the man had facial trauma and there is an ongoing investigation to determine whether he fell into the pool and hit is head or face, Bommarito said.
