The illegal dumping of cremated remains in Anaheim triggered a hazardous materials response from firefighters this afternoon.
Someone left a box of cremated remains on the side of a drainage ditch in the 2000 block of South Euclid Street, prompting the hazardous materials alert about 2 p.m., Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.
Firefighters did not immediately know what the substance was, but the bag of ashes was labeled “caustic chemicals, do not touch,” so the hazardous materials team was called, Wyatt said.
The cremation was done in 2010, and it was not immediately clear why the ashes were left there, he said.
Wyatt advised the public to not leave cremated remains out on the street.
