Fire officials Tuesday were hoping to fully contain a 50-acre brush fire in the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.

The blaze was 85 percent contained as of today, as about 25 firefighters — down from an initial 120 responders — remained on scene to tend to hot spots and flare-ups, OCFA Capt. Larry Kurtz said.

“We should be getting containment within the next 24 hours,” Kurtz said early Tuesday afternoon. “… we’re putting a fire line around the fire so that nothing escapes.”

Vegetation has been cleared from the area as part of the containment efforts, Kurtz said.

About 120 firefighters were dispatched at 12:57 p.m. Sunday to the park, on the west side of Laguna Canyon Road, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Tony Bommarito. No structures are currently threatened.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remained under investigation, according to the OCFA.
