A 55-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash while pushing a shopping cart across a Garden Grove street, authorities said Monday.

The crash was reported at 11:22 p.m. Sunday on West Chapman Avenue just west of Haster Street, said Garden Grove Police Sgt. R. Burillo. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A vehicle described as possibly a white Nissan Maxima was westbound on Chapman Avenue when it struck a man walking across the roadway, Burillo said.

The street the victim was crossing did not have a crosswalk, said Garden Grove police Sgt. P. Gildea. Investigators found a side mirror from the white vehicle at the scene of the crash.

Chapman was closed between Harbor Boulevard and Lewis Street for the investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Anyone with information on the crash was asked to call Garden Grove police accident investigators at (714) 741-5823.
