The Orange County Fire Authority sent a strike team Saturday to the Goleta area in Santa Barbara County to help battle the almost 11,000- acre Rey Fire.
The blaze has burned since Thursday in the Los Padres National Forest.
The strike team consists of five engines, a leader and 18 firefighters, said OCFA Capt. Steve Concialdi.
It is one of seven major fires for which the OCFA is providing mutual aid, Concialdi said.
A total of 98 firefighters are assisting at the Rey Fire, the Cedar Fire in the Sequoia National Forest, the Blue Cut Fire in San Bernardino County, the Soberanes Fire in Monterey County, the Clayton Fire in Lake County, the Mineral Fire in Fresno County and the Chimney Fire in San Luis Obispo County, he said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department on Saturday sent a strike team to the Chimney Fire, spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.
“It’s not even the fall when we get Santa Ana winds,” Concialdi said.
People in area near wildlands are urged to clear vegetation from a defensible space around their homes and make it easy to evacuate with medications, important papers, pets, photos, valuables and other essentials, he said.
