Officials Saturday were trying to determine why a construction worker was killed when he was crushed by a dump truck at a San Juan Capistrano landfill.
Investigators found a wrench and hydraulic fluid near the accident scene, leading them to suspect the man may have been working on the hydraulic lift of the dump truck before he was crushed under it, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Daryll Milliot.
The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was found crushed between the truck bed and the frame of the dump truck, Milliot said.
He worked for Redhawks Construction Co., said Erika Monterroza of Cal/OSHA, the state agency investigating the death.
The fatality occurred about 3 p.m. Friday in the 32200 block of La Pata, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Daryll Milliot.
