Storm cleanup efforts will resume Saturday morning in Garden Grove where more than 20 large trees fell, including one that crushed a car.

Public Works Department personnel continue work to clear immediate hazards, Garden Grove Fire Department Capt. Thanh Nguyen said.

The “havoc” caused by Friday’s heavy rains and strong winds prompted the Garden Grove Fire Department to establish a unified command with the police and public works departments to activate emergency operations about 4 p.m., according to Nguyen.

“Due to the centralized command and with the public’s help through social media, problem areas were quickly triaged and hazards were mitigated promptly,” Nguyen said.

There were no reports of injuries.

The emergency operation center was closed shortly before 8 p.m., with crews remaining on call.

“Our success today was a testament to our planning and collaboration with other departments and the community,” Garden Grove Fire Department Chief Tom Schultz said on Friday.
