A vehicle hit and knocked down a telephone pole on Ortega Highway in the San Juan Capistrano area Tuesday, prompting the closure of the road linking Interstate 5 and the Inland Empire.
The crash was reported about 2 p.m. just west of Antonio Parkway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities were awaiting an AT&T crew to clear the pole and Ortega Highway, also known as state Route 74, was expected to remain closed between Reata Road and Shadetree Lane until around 10 p.m., if not later, according to Caltrans spokeswoman Lindsey Hart.
No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
