An officer was injured when a suspected drunken driver ran a red light in Costa Mesa and struck his patrol vehicle, authorities said Tuesday.

The officer suffered a shoulder injury and was expected to be OK, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

The crash occurred just after 11:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Newport Boulevard and Del Mar Avenue, police said.

A California Highway Patrol officer and other law enforcement officials sped to the scene. The suspected drunken driver was arrested for felony DUI, police said.
